What is the AFL Toyota Grand Final

The Australian Football League (AFL) Toyota AFL Grand Final' is an annual Australian rules football match traditionally held at the magnificent Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) held on the last Saturday in September to determine the Australian Football League premiership champions.

The Game has become culturally significant to Australia, spawning a number of traditions and surrounding activities which have grown in popularity since the Victorian Football League VFL/AFL went national in the 1980s. In 2006 the Sweeney Sports Report concluded that the Toyota AFL Grand Final became Australian’s most important sporting event, with the largest attendance, television audience and overall interest of any annual Australian Sporting event.

The Toyota AFL Grand Final can lay claim to being the biggest sporting event in Australia and to add to this hype leading to that much anticipated “one day in September” The build-up in the week before the game is almost as tiring for its supporters as the game is for the players and it is fast becoming a week long carnival commencing on the Monday night with the Charles Brownlow medal count (best and fairest player voted by the umpires), through to the annual Grand Final luncheon on Wednesday, the Grand Final luncheon on Friday and the traditional televised Toyota AFL Grand Final breakfast.
